Established in 1835, it embodies the British public school tradition and was recognized as a national school by the Sri Lankan Government in the 1980s. With over 9,000 boys currently enrolled, it stands as the largest school in the country, providing equal opportunities for students to excel in diverse fields. Often dubbed the “Eton of Sri Lanka,” is renowned as the nation’s foremost educational institution renowned for its commitment to academic rigor, character development, and extracurricular achievements, Royal College has produced generations of leaders, professionals, and scholars who have made significant contributions to society. Its distinguished alumni, including presidents, a sultan, and three prime ministers, exemplify the institution’s commitment to excellence and societal contribution. The institution’s storied history is a testament to its enduring impact on individuals and the nation as a whole. From its humble beginnings to its present-day status as one of Sri Lanka’s premier educational institutions, Royal College has remained steadfast in its mission to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills and values necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world. Notably, Microsoft honored Royal College as one of the world’s best innovative colleges in 2009.

History of RCOBA
The Royal College Old Boys’ Association (RCOBA) is a respected community in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) of Australia, bringing together alumni from Royal College, Sri Lanka, with a history spanning over a century. The Royal College Old Boys Association of NSW & ACT (RCOBA) is the alumni society (old boys’ association) established for the old Royalists living in NSW & ACT. RCOBA is affiliated to Royal College Union (RCU) founded in 1891. It is one of the oldest such alumni society in Sri Lanka. The NSW-ACT chapter formed in 1997, RCOBA embodies a spirit of camaraderie and service among its members. Through a diverse range of events and charitable initiatives, RCOBA NSW-ACT preserves the esteemed legacy of Royal College while nurturing enduring connections among alumni.
The association serves as a platform to commemorate the profound impact of Royal College on individuals and society at large. Beyond mere reunions, RCOBA represents a deep sense of fellowship, tradition, and shared experiences that transcend temporal and geographical boundaries. Reflecting on the storied history of our alma mater, we are reminded of the myriad narratives and accomplishments that unite us as RCOBAs.
Mission of RCOBA
The dedicated management committee of RCOBA in NSW-ACT plays a pivotal role in the association’s success. Through their unwavering dedication to both the alma mater and the enjoyment of fellow alumni, they invest countless hours refining their skills in organization, communication, and event planning. From coordinating sports competitions to orchestrating cultural performances and culinary experiences, the committee diligently curates opportunities for camaraderie and enjoyment among the association’s 500-strong membership.
In addition to fostering a vibrant alumni community, members of RCOBA exemplify a spirit of philanthropy by generously supporting charitable causes in Sri Lanka. Whether through fundraising initiatives or personal contributions, they consistently demonstrate a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Despite occasional financial constraints, their steadfast generosity underscores the enduring values instilled by their alma mater. Their collective dedication serves as an inspiration, reinforcing the importance of giving back and enriching our communities.
